Elk River, Minn. (May 11, 1998) -- SolarAttic, Inc. announced today that United States Patent 5,746,653 was issued on May 5, 1998 in the names of co-inventors Edward G. Palmer and Ephraim M. Sparrow, both of Minnesota. SolarAttic, Inc. has been assigned 100% of the patent rights. This is the company's fourth patent and covers SolarAttic's unique duct and ventilation technology. The patent abstract reads: "The apparatus can distribute and collect air. As a collector, a fan draws air from the proximal end of an elongated tube disposed in an air-environment. The tube is closed at the distal end but receives air all along its length through its air-permeable wall. The wall is more permeable to air at its distal end than at its proximal end. Wall permeability gradually increases from the proximal end to the distal end so that a substantially constant rate of air ingestion occurs at all points along the wall. A reversal of the airflow direction converts the air collector into an air distributor for distributing air evenly along its length."
Ed Palmer, SolarAttic's CEO said: "We're excited that the U.S. Patent issued with all of its claims and we are now in the process of our international filings. The international patent application has already been published and in-country filings will follow shortly. SolarAttic's new patent represents an advancement in solar, ventilation and duct technology. Virtually any duct that moves air is a candidate for the company's new technology which moves air evenly. However, initially, the technology will be used within attics to enhance solar heat collection and ventilation."
SolarAttic has invented and patented a new alternative energy technology that uses the hot air inside of attics for heating hot water, space and swimming pools. The company has also invented and patented a new ventilation technology that allows the attic to be vented from within its own cavity. The new solar technology eliminates the need to use solar roof panels. The new ventilation technology eliminates the need for roof vents and has other applications.
